History of Rolling Hills – Caballeros Club
Caballeros is a family organization made up of people who share a liking for horses, and an enthusiasm for riding. As soon as the group was formed in 1951, its members took on the formidable task of building a network of bridle trails through the hills. Prime movers in this work were Jesse Powers, the first President and Roland Swaffield, the trails chairman.
There are now about twenty miles of graded bridle trails in the city that were constructed by this organization and new ones are being added on the easements around property lines. The trails are maintained by the Caballeros, and they have western names such as Willow Springs, Blackwater, and Flying Triangle.
The membership fee includes the whole family. Bulletins keep members informed of the activities planned for the group. Membership includes regular newsletters and the calendars of Caballeros organized events, a directory of members and an opportunity to join the many riding, hiking, and social activities planned by the group.
Today, horseback riders and non-riders alike belong to Caballeros, sharing the fun-loving camaraderie while supporting and maintaining the trails. The club hosts several social events throughout the year including an annual pancake breakfast, monthly red-carpet luncheons, and trail rides. Many of these events are open to all residents.
Prime concerns of the organization are to maintain the rural atmosphere of Rolling Hills and to further horse activities. There are two riding rings in the community, the Caballeros Ring and Hix Ring. Use of these riding rings are restricted to Rolling Hills residents and their guests only. The trails are maintained by the Rolling Hills Community Association and monitored by the Caballeros Club.
Caballeros Board meetings are held at 7:00 PM on the second Wednesday of each month. (call to verify)
